Name of the Project
Karreebosch Wind Farm.

Location
Straddling the Western and Northern Cape provinces of South Africa, between Sutherland and Matjiesfontein.

Project Owner/s
Renewable-energy developer G7 Renewable Energies and Exxaro Resources subsidiary Cennergi.

Project Description
The Karreebosch Wind Farm will feature state-of-the-art wind turbine technology and will deliver 460 GWh/y of electricity to Northam Platinum’s mining operations. 

The facility will feature 25 Goldwind turbines, each with a 165 m rotor diameter, designed to maximise production in local wind conditions. 

The wind farm is expected to be operational for 25 years.

Potential Job Creation
The wind farm will create about 1 030 construction jobs and 17 permanent operational roles.

Capital Expenditure
R4.7-billion, which will be financed by financial institutions Nedbank, Absa and Standard Bank.

Planned Start/End Date
Construction started in February 2025 and is expected to be fully operational in Northam’s 2027 financial year.
